Description

Biographical studies of four Japanese generals and the major campaigns they fought, by a British military historian and officer.

The generals are General Tomoyuki Yamashita (both in the Malaya campaign and defense of the Philippines); Gen. Masaharu Homma and the conquest of the Philippines; Renya Mutaguchi and the ill-fated March to India; Masaki Honda and the Burma campaign. Based on Japanese sources and interviews with the families and contemporaries of the generals, plus standard works in English, this work gives thus far unsurpassed account of these Japanese generals and their campaigns. (The author fought in the Burmese campaign and thus faced Gen. Mutaguchi’s troops).

The chapters on the Philippines (Homma and Yamashita) provide much information that has not fully been tapped by researchers and writers.
