Autobiography of the commander of the 1st Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

In 1945 Gen. Chase led the “Flying Column” consisting of fast motorized forces to enter Manila and liberate Santo Tomas Internment Camp. Chase narrates his military education and career through World War I and after, concentrating on his World War II experiences. He fought in the Admiralty Island campaign before proceeding to the Philippines, where he participated in the Leyte and Luzon campaigns. Soon after the liberation of Santo Tomas, Chase was made commander of the 38th Infantry Division which fought in Zambales, Bataan, Corregidor and east of Manila. After the war, he served in Occupied Japan and in Taiwan.
