Dignity of the soul : the story of Filipino bravery in World War II / Bill Peavey

Title

Dignity of the soul : the story of Filipino bravery in World War II / Bill Peavey

Subject

World War, 1939-1945--Philippines.

Description

Popularized and partly fictionalized account of World War II in the Philippines, highlighting various aspects of the war and Japanese occupation in different parts of the Philippines.

The author is an American lawyer who was in the Philippines during the Vietnam War; he writes for a general audience and thus explains the Philippines, its people and culture in simple terms; at times the book reads like a tourist guide.

Some of his characters are real (such as Chick Parsons), but others seem fictional. The author does not explain whether this is history or historical fiction; he cites no sources and has no acknowledgement so it is difficult to tell.

The book has a number of historical errors, if it is history: on p. 59, for example, he has one of his characters growing up in Forbes Park (Forbes Park was established after World War II).
