Description

Well-researched, dramatically written account of the U.S. Ranger raid – assisted by Filipino guerrillas – to liberate the American prisoners of war in Cabanatuan.

Sides tells the story from various perspectives – the Rangers under Lt. Col. Henry Mucci; the American civilians who aided the prisoners of war (among them Claire Phillips); the American prisoners of war; the guerrillas under Col. Robert Lapham, Capt. Juan Pajota and Capt. Eduardo Joson.

The author also tries to bring in the Japanese perspective (Ironically, the movie The Great Raid dramatized this operation but was not based on this book; it was based on William Breuer’s book, "The Great Raid on Cabanatuan," published earlier). The author is a professional writer and journalist.
