A brief history of the 101st Division, Philippine Army / Primitivo M. Catalan

Title

A brief history of the 101st Division, Philippine Army / Primitivo M. Catalan

Subject

World War, 1939-1945--Regimental histories--Philippines.

Description

One of a series of division histories written under the auspices of the Office of the Chief of Historical Activities, Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The 101st Division was mobilized in Mindanao from reservists coming from that island. It fought a number of engagements against Japanese forces, but was preparing for a protracted defense similar to Bataan when orders to surrender were received in May 1942.

Based on official reports and interviews with Filipino officers, this brief history attempts to present a Filipino history of the defense of Mindanao, although it suffers from a number of factual errors and has many digressions.

Portions are taken directly from Morton’s "Fall of the Philippines" (including source citations). Owing to lack of sources, the information about the division itself is quite thin. About half of the volume consists of a partial roster of the division’s officers and men.
