The escape, World War II / by Celedonio A. Ancheta

Title

The escape, World War II / by Celedonio A. Ancheta

Subject

World War, 1939-1945--Personal narratives, Philippine.

Description

Personal account of a Filipino reserve officer called to duty with the 61st Division in Panay.

He briefly describes conditions at the outbreak of the war, preparations for defense in Panay, orders to surrender and his decision to join the guerrillas. He however had to consider his wife and family (three daughters), and the fact that he was from Ilocos Norte and not from Panay. He thus decided to make an escape from Panay to his hometown. The trip was perilous and involved hiding from the Japanese and taking a dangerous boat trip which lasted about one month.

The short book ends with Ancheta’s arrival in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. The author served with the USAFIP-NL (US Armed Forces in the Philippines – Northern Luzon) although he does not include that saga here. The content of this book was reprinted in the compilation "Exigencies of War," edited by Col. Ancheta.
