Description

Personal account supplemented by readings and interviews with other survivors, this memoir is well founded.

Nix did his own readings and research to confirm his own memories. He does not discuss pre-war life or even the early days of the war, but starts his narrative on his transfer from Bataan to Corregidor. Nix was a mechanic and was busy during the siege; after the surrender, he was kept on the island by the Japanese for some time, forced by the Japanese to try to salvage whatever they could. He was transferred to Bilibid, and then to Japan on board the hell ship Noto Maru.

Contains rare photos of Manila and Corregidor before the war, and had to work in a copper mine in Japan for Mitsubishi. He dedicates one chapter to those who did not survive the prison sips, and provides much additional information in the appendices.
