Description

This book assembles three stories of Filipino heroism in World War II: Buenaventura Bello, a school teacher in Vigan who refused to take down the American flag when the Japanese ordered him to (and a schoolboy who took the flag); Joey Guerrero, a leper who served as courier for the guerrilla since the Japanese avoided her; and two brothers (the Villaluzes) who were incarcerated and tortured in Fort Santiago.

Written in very simple English and Pilipino, the book is supposed to keep the memories of these heroes alive in the memories of young Filipinos. (The book tells the popularly accepted versions of the stories; the actual events are not exactly as depicted here. Bello, for example, survived the war and was not killed as is popularly believed).
