Title
Japanese monograph no. 137 : Philippines operations record. Phase three, vol. IV : general outline of Mindoro operations [manuscript]
Subject
Japan--History, Military--20th century.
World War, 1939-1945--Campaigns--Philippines.
Description
“A very brief description of operations of two infantry companies of the 8th Division, which were virtually wiped out in defending Mindoro and Lubang Islands. (Edited, Reproduced, 10 pages)”.
Based on the recollections of Lt Nobushiro Kakishima and Sgt Naoji Sato. 2 maps. Overlaps with Japanese Monograph #10.
Mindoro was important to the Japanese as a lookout post on Manila Bay, and also for raw materials needed in Japan’s war effort. The Japanese were never able to control the whole island, since the guerrilla resistance forces were quite strong. The US needed Mindoro for access to airfields which could provide air cover for military operations in Luzon.
Relatively detailed for this small operation.
