Title

Japanese monograph no. 10 : Philippine operations record. Phase III. (November 1944-April 1945) [manuscript]

Subject

Japan--History, Military--20th century.
World War, 1939-1945--Campaigns--Philippines.

Description

“A vague account of the activities of two provisional companies that garrisoned Mindoro and Lubang Islands. Of little or no value, this monograph was recommended for deletion. Material contained might well have been condensed to one or two paragraphs and combined with another study. (Unedited translation, 9 pages)” See also JM 137.

On title page: “Outline of Mindoro Island Operations.” Written by ex-Col. Ryoichiro Aoshima, based on statements of platoon leader Nonuki Kakijima and Sgt Nonutsugu Sato. In outline form; very impersonal. Overlaps with Monograph 137. Map. Lubang misspelled as Lubana. Mindoro and Lubang were important to the Japanese as these served as lookout posts to warn Japanese forces in Manila and Luzon of the approach of US forces. The Japanese occupation force never was able to conquer the island, which had an active guerrilla resistance movement.
