Description

One of the first published histories from the Filipino side of the guerrilla resistance movement in the Philippines.

This volume, published barely a year after the war, documents the Negros guerrilla resistance movement, recognized by General MacArthur as the 7th Military District under Col. Salvador Abcede. It also details the civilian government on the island, free from Japanese control, headed by Alfredo Montelibano.

Episodic, the book narrates the motives of the guerrillas, their organization, major personalities and battles. The author cites many documents in full in the text and appends a partial roster of guerrilla and civilian officials. Zaragoza was Assistant Provincial Secretary in the Free Negros government and thus had access to official records.

Until the publication of Baclagon’s "They Chose to Fight," this was the basic history of the 7th Military District, although it was not easily accessible since it was published in limited numbers in Bacolod. It was reprinted in Quezon City in 1982.
