World War, 1939-1945--Philippines--Fiction.
Description
Novel about World War II and the Japanese occupation of Cebu (fictionalized as Ubec). Although the author was born after the war, she grew up hearing war stories from her relatives, stories which were tragic, heart-wrenching but also epitomizing the Filipino spirit to triumph over difficulty.
While regarded as fiction and in no way attempting to be a historical document (in the author’s own words), she wrote the novel as her own way of “documenting the triumph of the Filipino spirit over foreign oppression.”
Married to an American and currently living in the US, the author is a writer, also teaching creative writing in Los Angeles.
