Lagablab : mga alaala ng digma = [Burst of Flame: Memories of War] / Simplicio P. Bisa
Title
Lagablab : mga alaala ng digma = [Burst of Flame: Memories of War] / Simplicio P. Bisa
Description
Detailed social and cultural history of World War II and the Japanese occupation in the town of Taysan, Batangas.
Written in Filipino, the author (a professor at De La Salle University, Manila), describes the war as experienced by himself (he was a youngster at the time), and town mates he interviewed. Bisa also narrates experiences of town mates who fought in Bataan and marched the Death March, as well as those who joined the guerrillas.
The book incorporates creative writing techniques, and thus is also considered creative nonfiction. As with such works heavily dependent on interviews and memories, the reader should be aware of lapses (for example, an interviewee remembers turtleneck sweaters in 1941 when these became fashionable years after the war).
