Description
This book compiles the letters of an American military doctor assigned to the Philippines in May 1941. These letters were written to his family in the States and describe life in Fort McKinley and Nichols airfield (he was a flight surgeon) before the war.
There are no writings during the actual wartime period, but he resumed his writing in October 1942 in a series of letters describing prisoner-of-war life. These letters were not mailed, but serve as a record of how he survived in Camp O’Donnell, Cabanatuan and other prison camps under the Japanese.
The letters were assembled, edited and published by Andler’s wife Valeda after his death.
