The title is the name the Igorots called Nobes, meaning revered (or honorable) Padre. Nobes’ experiences during World War II are covered in Chapters XV to XXI: impact of the war in Sagada; arrival of the Japanese; internment in Camp Holmes just outside Baguio City, and dramatic transfer to Bilibid Prison on the eve of the American landing on Luzon.

Nobes, along with the other Camp Holmes internees, was liberated by American soldiers in February 1945, in the beginning of the Battle of Manila.</text>
